TAT Testimonies

These are some of what the 2006 TAT team members have told us:

“Before starting TAT for the second time I was quite nervous but came knowing that it would help to equip me to share my faith with others.  Getting to know the team at the start was a real blessing since it is a team effort, this kind of work would be extremely difficult (maybe impossible) on one’s own. God really undertakes for me when I am out on the streets. I feel nervous and apprehensive before we go out, but as soon as I get talking to someone all anxiety goes and the work becomes a joy.  Rejection is just something you have to deal with but it makes it all the more precious when you find someone who is genuinely interested. In conclusion I am so grateful to God for TAT this year.  I’m sure He has used it to mould me into someone better equipped and more enthused to share the gospel to a world which needs it so much.  To Him be the glory forever.  Amen.”

“Tell a Tourist this year hasn’t been what I imagined it to be at all.  Having done it twice before I should have known it is never what you expect it to be. For me this year hasn’t been about spreading the gospel message to tourists as I presumed it would be but instead it has been an experience about what God has revealed to me and taught me about myself and also Him.  Before I came to TAT, my daily bible study had turned more to monthly! So to have a specific time each day to spend praying and learning from the Word was exactly what I needed.  What has he taught me?  I’ve come to a natural crossroads in my life, having just graduated and moving back home.  I suppose I started to lack confidence in everything, but I’ve seen God speak to me through the bible study that God’s faithfulness is absolute. He has taught me to surrender to His way in every aspect of my life.  Even the sections I want to control, I need to hand over to God.  Although I still don’t know what to do with my life I know that He loves me unconditionally and that He will show me where He wants me to be and what He wants me to do.  God’s provision is all I need (Romans 8:32).”

“My two weeks on the Tell a Tourist team has been an amazing experience and a real eye-opener.  I never knew that so many different nationalities visited Chester.  All of the team members are really united and we work well together.  I found that it is actually fun talking to people.  I loved trying to understand where other people are coming from and why they believe what they do.  Its good sharing my faith with other people because it brings it to life. The first person I shared my faith with was a man who lived in the highrise flats in Blacon, which is right next to my home church.  So I thought this is interesting, I come on Tell a Tourist and meet someone local.  But I still had a really good chat with him and we both shared what we believed.  He believed in a God that was interested in him and that Jesus was the Son of God.  I encouraged him to come to my home church, even if it wasn’t Sunday morning but just some activity that the church runs.“

“This was my 8th TAT. I’ve seen it change a bit over the years but on the whole its still the same as it always has been with the same aims and objectives.  At the time of writing I still haven’t had THE conversation – but there’s still time! Two conversations do spring to mind.  The first is when I was by the Eastgate clock with Tom.  He initiated a conversation with two French lads – and I joined in.  Although they didn’t speak English particularly well, they were over here to learn it so were receptive to what we had to say. Whereas I don’t think I’ve come to TAT as an evangelist this year, I certainly feel I’ve been able to be a resource.  I’ve enjoyed sorting out all the literature… So – thanks for this year’s TAT: for the people we’ve met, the fellowship between team members and the way we’ve seen God working.  I’m continuing to pray that all of us will have learnt something this fortnight to take away into the outside world.”

“With street evangelism being new to me I was surprised at the amount of people who really are willing and open to hear about Jesus. While I have been here I’ve understood more about God being in control.  Whether or not someone accepts a tract or chat, God thaws their heart and whether they would be open or not, God can prepare people’s hearts and He can use each conversation, whether or not we think it went well. I’ve also realised the huge importance of prayer in evangelism.  Nothing is done without praying first at Tell a Tourist, it clearly affects the work greatly. I’ve been really blessed over these few days and experienced the joy of sharing Jesus with people!  I now feel encouraged and so much more confident and ready to share my faith with people back home.”
